HUSD’s "Employee Spotlight" campaign, runs annually through the month of April. The campaign is to showcase the dedication of HUSD’s teachers and classified staff. The photos of our employees are accompanied by a statement from an administrator, peer, or student.

Aren't you proud of these kiddos? They took third overall in this past weekend's iExpo competition. Way to go, Mustangs!

Congratulations to Mesa's Imagination Team! At today's iExpo competition, we had 3 teams win awards! We also won 3rd place as the overall Elementary School winner. Thanks Ms. Kelley, Mr. Mendoza, Mrs. Brand, and Mr. Kevin for all your hard work to help these amazing kiddos succeed. Please join us in congratulating them.

Mesa families. Please join us this Monday at 9:00 for our next Parent Group meeting. We have a lot of great activities planned to finish out the year, and we need your help to do them. Hope to see you there.

Yesterday, we had our reward for our Monthly Motivated Mustangs for March, sponsored by our wonderful parent volunteers. These students participated in an Easter Egg Hunt. Everyone loves to find eggs, no matter your age. Doesn't that look fun?

Congratulations to Esmeralda and Nathan. They were chosen as our third quarter All-Stars. They are two of our students that make Mesa Grande an amazing school. We are so proud of them, and the wonderful students that they are. Enjoy the pizza and treats. You deserve them!

Another way that Ms. Canright helps meet the social and emotional needs of our students is through basketball. On Fridays, fifth graders join together with Ms. Canright and enjoy a friendly game of basketball. They focus on teamwork, FUN, and sportsmanship. Isn't that cool?

At Mesa, here's how Mrs. Aguayo helps kindergarten students, socially and emotionally. Students either go up and show how they are feeling today and why, or sometimes they do it by showing the number with their fingers. They love sharing their feelings.

At Mesa, one of the ways Ms. Canright helps students socially and emotionally is by eating lunch together in the cafeteria on Fridays. They use this time to get to know each other better while they laugh and enjoy each other's company.

Mesa families. Looking for a great thing to do today (Saturday)? One of our local high schools, Sultana High School’s (one of our local high schools), choir and drama students are putting on two performances of the musical, The Little Mermaid. Doors open at 12:30 pm, with a special meet and greet afterwards. Buy an adult ticket at the door for $10, get a child’s ticket free. The doors open for the second showing at 6:30 pm. All tickets are $10 for this one. Hope to see you there.

GET YOUR GREEN ON! Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and it's going to be magical! Be sure to wear your green and share your pictures with us so we can post them to our page.

Here's another example of social/emotional learning from Ms. Avila's class. The students encourage each other and tell each other things like “nice try” and “great job finding the number”.

Mesa Friends and Families,

Here's another example of a teacher addressing students' social and emotional needs. Ms. Jones' class uses dice with emoji faces, so that students can express how they feel that day. What a great way to get students to share their feelings.

Congratulations to our Monthly Motivated Mustangs! Over 300 students were recognized for coming to school on time, for the entire day, for at least 90% of the month. We want our healthy kids here all day. Give these kids a shoutout in the comments!

At Mesa, another way we meet kids' social and emotional needs, is through math fluency games. While playing, students encourage each other and tell each other things like “nice try” and “great job finding the number." Learning while encouraging- isn't that the best?
